BURLSWORTH TROPHY NOMINATION GUIDELINES

For purposes of the Burlsworth Trophy, “walk-on” is defined as a player who begins their football career with no financial assistance or aid of any kind from their university’s athletic department.

Burlsworth Trophy nominees are limited to players from universities in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Nominees must have completed their first entire season of active participation as a member of the football team without financial assistance of any kind from their university’s athletic department.

Nominee may be a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior.

Each FBS head football coach may nominate one player per season. Nominations will be submitted by school SID contact and received from October 21st – 25th.

A FBS school may nominate the same athlete multiple years as long as the player falls within the Burlsworth Trophy nomination guidelines.

Past Burlsworth Trophy winners who have remaining eligibility may be nominated again.

Did your nominee receive any financial assistance from the athletic department during his first Fall football season, this includes the nominating institution or any D-1 FBS school he attended previously? To clarify: the nominee will be eligible if he received financial support from the athletic department of a school from a lower division, but not if he received it from the  athletic department of one of the 130 D-1 FBS institutions.

Please complete the application below and submit. You will need your password provided by THE BURLSWORTH TROPHY Committee. You will receive a confirmation email after you have successfully submitted your player nomination.
